Five For Friday Dec 6

This week has flown by!  I am hoping that the next two weeks before Christmas vacation will go just as quickly.  We have a lot to do in the next few weeks, so I am sure it will! And.. because it is Friday, it is time to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching!


                                                                   

We have been doing a lot of cooperative learning in class lately and the kids are loving it!  It has really allowed me to work with more students, and I feel like my kids are learning even more as they explain what they are learning to their peers.  They have loved both being the coach and the coached.

Love Notes - Don't you just love the little love notes your students leave you?  This was at my desk this week.

I love birthdays in our class!  I get to embarrass honor them with the lovely birthday hat and a smencil!

Our district purchased these National Geographic Ladders books, and the kids have been loving them - they love non-fiction!  We learned about the 7 summits this week.  I'm not sure I could make a trek up any of the mountains, but a few of my kiddos are sure they could!

Teacher Toolbox Trio Linky Celebration

1. Something I've Made

 My Third Grade Math Journal Prompts - I love my kiddos writing about math - it really helps increase their understanding when they explain why they know what they know. I have four prompts for every standard along with answer keys.

 

And... because I will most likely be rolling up with my kiddos next year, I just finished the Math Journal Prompts for 4th grade!

 

2. Something I Purchased

 I don't know about your kiddos, but mine certainly had a difficult time with fractions this year.  That is why I couldn't wait to get my hands on this Hands on Common Core Fractions Unit.  The unit includes lessons, exit tickets, word problems, and more!  I can't wait to use this more fully next year!

3. Something on My Wish List

Now this is where it gets a little dicey for me - I have 211 items on my Wishlist (Don't judge!)! How can I narrow it down to one?  I guess I will put the item that is most recent on the list...

 We give out common assessments at our school, but I like knowing ahead of time where my kiddos are at and what I need to work on with them.  I have a similar set for third grade which I LOVE - so this one is definitely on my list! Common Core Math Assessments Test Prep Fourth Grade.

Learning About Point of View and The Powers of Persuasion Plus A Giveaway

We have been working on a unit of persuasion, point of view, and opinion. I found this idea for Point of View using Dear Mrs. LaRue Letters From Obedience School on Teaching With Style. We worked together to complete the chart below similar to what she had on her site.

 

 



Then I divided the students into groups and gave each group a copy of the pictures from the book.  They each wrote their own charts with "the truth" and Ike's Point of View.  They did a great job!

 We have been working on persuasion for the past two days, and I will be sharing some of their work soon!  They used their persuasive abilities to convince me to try on the birthday hat last week for my birthday.  Ever since I began teaching I have forced convinced my students to wear the hat on their birthday (even my middle schoolers!) On my birthday my hubby stopped by with cupcakes for my class and they persuaded me to wear the hat.  Hubs HAD to snap a picture. (Am I the only one who hates having my picture taken???)
