5 For Friday - Oct. 30, 2015

It has been awhile since I've joined in with DoodleBugsTeaching for Five for Friday, but since I have the day off today in honor of Nevada Day, I really have no excuse not to!

In Nevada, we celebrate Nevada Day the Friday before the official Nevada Day (October 31st).  So, since today is a day off of school, we had our Halloween celebrations yesterday.  The kids had a blast!  I am not going to lie and say that Halloween is NOT my favorite day of the year as a teacher, but I do enjoy seeing them have a good time.

Because today is a holiday, we took our weekly math tests yesterday morning.  You could imagine my students' surprise when our principal (dressed as Sandra D), vice principal (dressed as a T-bird) , school secretaries (Pink Ladies), and school counselor (T-bird) burst into our room singing and dancing.

They had a little speaker with them that was playing You're The
One I Want from Grease as they came in.  My students just sat there in shock.  As they walked out one of them said, "I think that song was from a movie." LOL!

I was able to attend the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) conference last week and learned so much!  I can't wait to share the ideas with my students and also with you here on the blog. Stay tuned to Sunday's blog post for the science lesson I used with my students this week.

We have had a crazy few weeks as a family as well with Tyler's first Homecoming and Cody's first band concert.

In honor of Nevada Day, some of my fellow Nevada sellers have gotten together to throw a sale at our TPT stores.  My sale is running today and tomorrow.  You can visit my TpT store here.

Hope you have a great weekend and a Happy Halloween!

Five For Friday January 16, 2015

Time for Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching! This has been a very long week for me, and I am happy to usher in the three day weekend!  Here are a few things I have been up to this week:

We started the week with a fossil hunt as part of a field trip for a STEM Earth Science class I am taking.  I was able to take two of my sons with me and they had a blast hunting for fossils of stickleback fish.

And keeping with that STEM focus, we also worked with our STEM roller coaster sets.

We had fun practicing our multiplication facts with these adorable penguin games.

They are a freebie from Light bulbs and Laughter.

We also learned about text features using this amazing book.  Stay tuned for a giveaway soon!

It is a giant wipe-off book that is perfect for teaching non-fiction text features.

Last but not least, I am participating in an amazing giveaway with one of my blogging buddies, Celeste over at The Education Highway!  She is celebrating 300 followers.  Head on over to congratulate her!

Five For Friday December 19, 2014

There is something about that last Friday before Christmas Vacation!  A little crazy and a little relaxing all at once!  Now that I am officially on Christmas Break, it is time for a little Five for Friday!

Every year my hubby dresses up as Santa.  This year he made a special appearance at our movie night.

And a close-up with our three youngest boys.

We started the week a little crazy as we broke out the glitter to make our annual Christmas Card.  It has become one of my favorite traditions, but the glitter mess - ugh!  There was glitter EVERYWHERE this year.

After the glitter dried, we took a few (hundred) shots to capture our holiday image.  It takes many, many takes to get 20 something kids looking acceptable.  Here are a few of our outtakes.

And our final Christmas Card.

We also made Christmas Cards to trade with another third grade class.

We had a ton of fun learning about windmills this week.  We worked with a 4th grade class and learned a lot not only about engineering, but also about teamwork and collaboration.  I will be posting more about this later, but here is a sneak peek.

Finally, I have a little favor to ask of you...  Our school guidance counselor has written 2 children's books about a crazy space cat and his reluctant owner, Bob. They are really fun books that my class loves to read.  Unfortunately, Ryan's son, Brody was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes last year when he was in Kindergarten.  Right now until December 31st, the kindle versions of both books are only 99 cents and he is donating all of the profits to help the NV Diabetes Association.

I would really appreciate it if you would consider adding these books to your Kindle library!

Here is a note from Ryan -

"My son Brody was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last February, and to support him and NV Diabetes Association, both my “The Adventures of Bob” kindles are 99cents until December 31st. All my profits are going to NV Diabetes Association to help support their family activities and family camps. Any soft cover sales will also be donated.

Appreciate your help :)"
