Reasons Why I Love My Class - Valentine's Day in the Classroom Freebie!

I wanted to do a little something special for my class this Valentine's Day, so when one of my friends posted this Valentine Heart Attack post from Skip to My Lou on Facebook, I knew I wanted to adapt it for the classroom. I wanted to share with my students all of the Reasons Why I Love My Class!

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a small commission each time someone makes a purchase using one of my links, which helps to support the blog.  All opinions are my own and I only promote brands and products that I have used myself and truly love.

I made a sign that said Reasons Why I Love My Class.  Then I printed a heart template on several pieces of card stock and cut them out.  I wrote various reasons why I love my class including:

They are smart.
They are kind.
They always try their best.

On February 1st, I hung up the Reasons Why I Love My Class sign and the first heart.  Today, I hung up the second heart.

My students were racing to the door to read what the new heart said.

I printed out all of my hearts ahead of time on colored card stock and will be hanging up a new one each day until Valentine's Day as a sort of countdown.  Here are a few of the other hearts:

I have made a freebie for you just in case you wanted to try this project out with your own students.  You can download it here.

You can start a few days late and add hearts as you go, or put up the whole display on Valentine's Day instead.

If you decide to do this project, I would love to see pictures!  Please email me at kellys3ps@sbcglobal.net or tag me on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter!

Here are a few pictures from other readers:

This display is from 3rd in the City - I LOVE how she displayed in on a clothesline bulletin board!

I love the first reason Ms. Cullia shared with her Pre-K kiddos - "They come in with smiles everyday!"

If you would like to see the other months' projects you can find them here:

Five for Friday - February 13, 2015

Time for Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching! It has been an absolute whirlwind of a week, and I have found myself awake at 3:30 in the morning thinking about all the things I haven't gotten done yet that need to get done today!  Add that to the fact that today is an early start for me (we have faculty meetings every Friday morning before school) and that today is Valentines Day (can you say sugar rush kiddos?), AND Friday the 13th!!!  Yikes! I can do this, I can do this, right?  LOL!

Well, here is a peek at some of the craziness of the week!

We have a ton of February birthdays in our classroom, so we have been enjoying the sugar rush of cupcakes on almost a daily basis!  This is the first year that I have taught the same grade that one of my own children was in, and he is actually in my class.  It has been a unique experience having my students also be my son's friend!  We have been at many a birthday party this year!

I hit my first milestone for my TpT store, which is kind of a big deal, and a personal goal I have had for awhile.  My hubby surprised me the moment that I hit it with a small bag of treats and a card signed by him and the younger three boys.  Swoon!

I will of course be having a big giveaway to celebrate next week!  Don't forget to stop by and check it out!

And speaking of giveaways, if you haven't already entered this month's giveaway for the $25 TpT gift card, be sure to enter here.

We have been working on making this amazing Valentines Day themed door decoration from Art With Jenny K.
Valentine's Day!

And the final product:

It was a surprise for my students when they saw the final creation and they LOVED it!  Jenny also has a variety of these for other holidays, so be sure to check them out.

We have been continuing our non-fiction unit for reading and we have gotten so much use out of this book!

My students have even been grabbing it as their book of choice during read to self time.  Love it!

Our read aloud right now is The One and Only Ivan.  I Love this book!

For our graphing lesson this week I asked them this question to go along with the book:

I was not ready for the spontaneous spirited debate that happened as they casted their votes!

I had to snap a few pictures!  I loved hearing them use accountable talk on their own, and they even justified their answers and gave reasons why they felt the way they did.  A few of them were able to persuade people to change their votes!  I am super excited for our opinion writing unit now!

How was your week?  Did you survive the Valentine sugar high?

February Pinterest Pick 3 Linky

It is time for our monthly pick 3 party hosted by PAWSitively Teaching and Inspired Owl's Corner.

Here are three of the things that have caught my eye to use with my students during February:

Radiating Valentine Card

I love this Valentine's art project of radiating hearts.  I am going to have my students make Valentine's Cards for their parents with covers like these.

Fun Valentine's Day Minute to Win it games! My students LOVE these games!

My students always love Minute to Win it Games, and I think these games will be a hit for our Valentine's party.  I sometimes add a graphing component (of their results) to make it a bit more academic.

Science Experiments Kids Can Do : [http://www.coffeecupsandcrayons.com/conversation-heart-science-experiments/]

My students love science, and this one looks like a great experiment!

Five for Friday February 14th

Happy Valentine's Day!  I survived the sugar rush that was our Valentine's Day Party!  It is Friday Saturday and time for a belated Five for Friday post with Doodle Bugs Teaching!

Speaking of said sugar rush here are a few pics of our "Love Fest"

My haul - good thing I have a few boys at home to help me eat all the goodies!

I tried to tame the sugar monster a bit by having a Heart Healthy Breakfast.  I think it is going to be a new tradition - the kids loved it!

Speaking of healthier eating - I know I have to be better about this.  I was really good at the beginning of the year, but as soon as I got bronchitis and pneumonia right before Christmas my good habits went out the door.  Being sick made me crave all of my comfort foods and unfortunately that includes sugar.  I lost a ton of weight when I gave up sugar during my last pregnancy (I had gestational diabetes), but I went back to the sugar and gained it all back and then some. I know I have to change permanently. So for the past three weeks I have gotten back on the exercise habit and this week was the week to get back on track with my healthier eating. I rarely have time at school to sit down and eat, but I am a snacker. Usually I munch on candies or other quick things to eat.  I knew I had to have quick and easy snacks on hand to help out.  I was inspired by this pin from Pinterest to bring some healthy snacks to school.

My Version

What types of healthy snacks do you bring to school to keep the hunger at bay?

Another fun Valentine tradition that has developed in my class is hair bows.  Because I have rolled up with my class, I have the same students this year that I do last year.  One of the girls in my class has brought hair ribbons to school for all of the girls in our class (including me) every Valentine's Day.  Here is a pic of the girls modeling their bows:

And then the boys had to get into it too.

And on a final parting note:

Yeah, not sure what to say about that exactly :D

Hope you had a great Valentine's Day!  Hubby had to work last night so we are going out to dinner tonight.
