What is subitizing?

Subitizing is the ability to recognize the value of a small group of objects without counting. Subitizing is the skill that we use when we look at dominoes or dice!  

Helping students to quickly recognize groups is an important foundational math skill. These Hanukkah Subitzing color by number worksheets will help your students to develop this skill!

What is subitizing?

When we look at a small group of objects and are instantly or almost instantly able to tell what the number represents we are subitizing.  It's the skill that we use when we look at dominoes or dice!  

Subitizing or number sense is an important skill for math.

This color by number activity is perfect for helping students to practice their subitizing skills. Students should be able to look at the number representations in the picture and determine the corresponding number.

Students who are still developing this skill may need to count any numbers they don't recognize, but counting is an important mathematical skill as well.

Once they identify the number, they color that space in with the indicated color.

I have included diverse representations of the characters in the resource.
