The Best Book Deals this Week November 1, 2020

I often get lots of questions from other teachers about building a classroom library without breaking the bank, so each week, I share 4-7 books that are on sale right now. I also share books that YOU might like to read as well!

BOOK DEALS YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS WEEK!

Turkey Trouble is the perfect choice for a read aloud in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving.  It tells the story of a turkey who is in trouble - big trouble (and we all know why)! 

To try to avoid being served for Thanksgiving dinner, Turkey comes up with several disguises to hide from the farmer. It is the perfect lead-in for a turkey in disguise writing project.

I love the word choice in this book for dialogue that is much more interesting than "said".  Examples in the book include: moaned, grumbled, and a whole lot more!

You can get the Kindle version for FREE with Kindle Unlimited.

Speaking of word choice, The Word Collector is another one of my favorites!  I love using this book to inspire my students to look for interesting words as they read to build their vocabulary.  It's about a little boy who collects words, and the author gives lots of ideas where students can collect words as well!

I loved Beverly Cleary books when I was in elementary school, and her books are still beloved by my students today!  The Mouse and The Motorcycle (the first book in the Ralph S. Mouse series) is on sale right now.  The Kindle version is on sale for an even greater discount!

I am a huge Pig the Pug fan! The newest book in this series, Pig the Slob is set to release November 10, 2020. You can pre-order the book at a discount right now. I have not read this book yet (since it's not even release yet), but this line is amazing for teaching rhyme or poetry!

My students absolutely love the Mercy Watson book series by Kate DiCamillo!  These books are the perfect fit for your beginning chapter book readers.  They will love the beautiful illustrations and funny antics of this unforgettable pig!

You can get Mercy Watson to the Rescue on sale right now. Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride is also on sale.

One series that I can never keep on my classroom library book shelves is the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.  You can get the Kindle version of all the books for 80% off right now!  The Kindle Versions of books have been a lifesaver for distance learning.

Another popular book is Drama by Raina Telgemeier.  It's a graphic novel which is extremely appealing right now. The story tells the tale of a middle school play.

Another graphic novel by Telgemeier that my students love is Guts. This book is a biographical story about the author's experience being sick.

Eragon is a great read for your advanced readers who love adventure and fantasy! When the main character, Eragon finds a stone which later turns out to be a dragon egg, he unlocks a whole world of adventure!  You can get the Kindle version for just under $2 right now.

Fry Bread is a story about the Native American food and the families who make it.  It is also a great book to teach about figurative language including similes and onomatopoeia. 

It is illustrated by one of my favorite illustrators, Juana Martinez-Neal who wrote Alma and How She Got Her Name which is also on sale right now!
