BOOK DEALS YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS WEEK!

Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type is about a farmer who has a BIG problem - cows that like to type.  What do they like to type? Complaints!  They want electric blankets because the barn is too cold.  Things get out of hand when all of the farm animals are making demands.

The hardcover version of the book is on sale right now for under $5!

I Am Enough is about learning to love who you are, respecting others, and being kind to one another.  In addition to all of the powerful lessons, it makes a great writing mentor text. For example:
one line says,

"Like the sun, I'm here to shine."

Students can use this sentence to write their own examples.

Like a diamond, I'm here to sparkle.
Like a lion, I'm here to roar.
Like a spaceship, I'm here to soar.

etc.

The hardcover version of the book is on sale right now.

If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read it for FREE!

If you are looking to diversify your classroom library, The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab and Family is a great addition! It's about a little girl whose older sister gets her first hijab and how proud the little sister is of her big sister.  Unfortunately, not everyone feels the same way about the hijab.

This book tells the story of the unbreakable bond between sisters and being proud of who you are.

Hair Love tells the story of a little girl with hair that has a mind of it's own!  Luckily, she also has a Daddy who tells her how beautiful she and her hair are. A great tale of love and acceptance!

Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket book cover

Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket is part of Amazon's First Read program. This program gives you early access to a variety of books each month.

Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket is about a little girl who sets her sights on going to Mars. No one has been there before, so she makes it her mission to be the first one.

Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket Page

I absolutely LOVE the poetry and rhyme woven throughout the text. I also love how it gives an example of a child having a passion and what they do to achieve it!

There are also a ton of vivid verbs and great vocabulary!  I also appreciate that the author has included information about the history of women in space for those students interested in learning more.

Gerta novel

Gerta is another book from Amazon's First Read program. Amazon Prime members can get the book for Free!

This is one of those books that I recommend for you! It takes place in 1945 post World War II.  I am a sucker for historical fiction, and this is a good one so far!

It's about a woman who is the daughter of a Czech mother and a German father who who was aligned with Hitler during the war.  Because of her father's role in the war, Greta has been named an enemy of the state and has been expelled (along with many others) from Czechoslovakia.

She is forced to leave the only home that she knows with only the clothes on her back and her baby daughter.

I haven't finished this one yet, but it has been great so far!

No David Book Cover

No David!  Is always a classroom favorite no matter how old my students are! I love using it as a read aloud at the beginning of the year to talk about the right and wrong ways to do things.  It is also a great writing mentor text since there aren't a lot of words on the pages.  Students can create their own.

Football Genius book cover

Every year I have at least one boy in my class who is a sports fan, and they fall in love with the Tim Green books about sports!  Football Genius is about a boy who can predict football plays before they even happen.  You can get a great deal on the Kindle version right now!

BOOK DEALS YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS WEEK!

The girls in my class the last few years have been crazy over the Phoebe and her Unicorn books!  If you haven't seen them yet, they are graphic novels about a little girl named Phoebe and her unicorn best friend.  This week several of the books in the series, including Camping With Unicorns are on sale.

The I Am book series are great non-fiction books for introducing students to famous figures in history in a fun and entertaining way.  Right now I am Martin Luther King Jr. is on sale.  This would be a great read for Martin Luther King Day!

This Book is Gray is all about fitting in.  Gray wants nothing more than to fit in, but all the other colors are always leaving him out.  He decides to create his own book with everything gray.  But, what happens when the other colors start making cameos?

This book is great for teaching about acceptance and seeing other people's point of view! It's also great for teaching about adjectives!

The hardcover version is 50% off right now.

BOOK DEALS YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS WEEK!

Snow by Uri Shulevitz is the perfect winter storybook! It tells the story of a little boy who sees a snowflake, and knows that the snow is coming.  Everyone else thinks it's just a snowflake, but the boy has faith that it will amount to something.

If you are looking to add to the diversity of your classroom library, Eyes that Kiss in the Corners is a great one!  It tells the story of a little Asian girl who notices that although her eyes look different than many of her friends, they look the same as her mother and grandmother and are beautiful because they "kiss in the corners".

I love the figurative language that fills this book!  So many examples of similes, metaphors, and alliteration!  See if your students can spot them as you read!

The Bad Guys series by Aaron Blabey is one of those series that never stays in my classroom library!  The kids eat them up!  The Bad Guys in The One? is on sale right now.

Another classroom series favorite is the Mother Bruce books by Ryan T. Higgins. He has a new book out called Spring Stinks which is about a little bunny who can't wait to show Bruce all of the great smells of Spring, but what will Bruce think about all of that stink?

The kindle version of the book is on sale right now.  Kindle versions of books have been the best for on-line teaching! I love using Amazon Unlimited!

The Best Book Deals this Week December 27, 2020

I often get lots of questions from other teachers about building a classroom library without breaking the bank, so each week, I share 4-7 books that are on sale right now. I also share books that YOU might like to read as well!

BOOK DEALS YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS WEEK!

The Crayon Man: The True Story of the Invention of Crayola Crayons is about the true story of the invention of the Crayola Crayons.  Since almost all kids love to color, they will be instantly engaged and interested in the story!

In addition to the non-fiction information in the book, it would make a great mentor text for using interesting adjectives - check out the first page!

One of my Christmas gifts was Jodi Picoult's newest book, The Book of Two Ways.  I have loved everything she has ever written!  I am about one fourth of the way through with this one, and it is another winner!

It's about a woman who survives a plane crash, but then begins to reevaluate the choices that she has made in her life.

It's on sale for 50% off right now!

Another book under the tree for me this year was Dark Tides by Philippa Gregory (another favorite author of mine).

If you aren't familiar with her work, she is a historical fiction writer, primarily writing about England Aristocracy.

This book is the second in a series that tells the story of the rise of the Tidelands family in London, Venice, and New England in the late 1600's.

If your students are fans of the Babysitter's Club Graphic novels, they will be so excited to hear that the newest book, Claudia and the New Girl is going to be released in February!

When you pre-order books on Amazon, like this one, you can lock in a great sale price, and the book will arrive on publication day!
