Using 99 Math to Practice Math Skills

If you have been a blog reader for just about any amount of time now, you probably realize that I love finding new ways for my students to practice their math facts!

A few years ago, I found a website called 99 Math that helps do just that!

This is a sponsored post by
99 Math. All reviews and opinions expressed in the post are my own.

What is 99 Math?

99 Math is an interactive website where students can play math games either individually or as a class. It's not just math facts practice, there are over 1,000 math topics for grades 1- 6 that you can choose from.  You just need to select your grade, and the topics come up.  Below is a screen shot of just some of the 4th grade standards.

How do you play 99 Math?

Students use their own devices to join 99 Math and enter the game code that you as the teacher receive when you set up a game.

After entering the game, students are asked to enter a name.  They can just use their first name or even enter a fake name (just make sure you ask them to let you know what those fake names are so you can keep track of their progress.

How can 99 Math help me keep track of student progress?

Once your class has played the first game, you will receive a report with all of the students' progress as a whole.  As you can see in the screenshot below, it tells you how many questions each student was able to answer, and their accuracy.

It also tells you if a student hasn't answered any questions, which could alert you to a problem with their device, or perhaps they had to leave the classroom for some reason during the practice (in this case the office called the student up to go to a dentist appointment).

You can then click on each individual student and see their answers, their strengths, and areas where they can improve which allows you to differentiate for each students' needs.  I love that they give you areas to improve even for students who score 100%.

In the screen shot below, you can see that the student chose to use their student number instead of their name.  I love that students can remain anonymous if they want.

You can also see how the report shows which answers the students gave, so you can analyze their errors. In the example above, the student correctly answered 6 X 9 = 54 in one of the earlier problems, but then incorrectly solved 6 X 9 = 5.  I can tell that the student most likely knows this fact, but was typing in their answer too quickly.

Instead of practicing the fact, we might want to have a discussion about accuracy and making sure they type in the correct answer.

You and your students can keep track of their progress the more you use the program. This has been super motivating for both myself and my students!

How much does 99 Math cost?

One of the best things about 99 Math is that it is FREE!  Yes, free!  You can't beat that!

Have you tried 99 Math yet?  I'd love to hear any of your thoughts or questions!
